I
got my first Tibbie, Ansku, from Pirkkala. That
was in summer of '85 and I was 14 years old
at the time. I had just moved from Paltamo (located
in Kainuu) to Tampere with my parents and had
decided to have a small companion dog, which
would adapt well to living in a city.
I
had the following breed choices in mind; Poodle,
a west highland white terrier and a tibetan
spaniel. Poodle didn't seem to fit well to my
heavy rock style nature at the time so I was
left pondering between the terrier and the tibetan
spaniel. While my parents were away for the
summer in Paltamo, I started to watch closely
the classified ads in Aamulehti (a local newspaper)
for 'puppies for sale'. I had decided to get
a male terrier or the tibetan spaniel.
On
a certain August day I finally noticed an ad:
"tibetan spaniel pupppies for sale".
I still have that particular newspaper clip
in a safe place. I called the breeder the very
moment I had read the ad and we agreed that
I'll go and see the puppies on the same day.
I also called my parents and as an announcement
I told them that I am going to get a tibetan
spaniel puppy today from Pirkkala.
I
asked a friend from school to accompany me and
aid in navigating to the breeder's address because
I wasn't too familiar with my new surroundings.
It turned out that even with my friend we couldn't
find the location right away. Instead we wandered
around in Härmälä and Pirkkala
for quite some time. All is well that ends well
and I did get back home late in the evening
with the world's cutest little male tibetan
spaniel puppy.
Ansku
grew up to be a very open, social and potent
dog, who was always with me and family wherever
we might have travelled. Ansku's charming nature
was evident even when he was already at a veteran
age and when I started to long for new 'dog
family members'. Ansku accepted the new family
members graciously and so he lived his last
years in the company of two tibetan spaniels,
a gordon setter and two persian cats.
I
got interested in breeding and genetics in '95,
courtesy of Orvokki Keskinen (Central Point-kennel)
who lived in my neighbourhood. I received lot
of information from her and she sparked my interest
to deepen my involvement with this hobby. I
had always been interested in dog shows but
it was only after I got Jippu (Toyway Jinja)
that I actually entered into a dog show in '96.
I
got my own kennel name in '96. My primary goal
was to breed gordon setters and possibly tibetan
spaniels. A gordon setter was my childhood dream
and after moving away from the city I simply
had to fulfill that dream. I had so much bad
luck that I was never able to use the foundation
bitches which I had planned for breeding.
When
Ansku passed away there was a quiet period in
my hobby with dogs. Then finally on year 2000
I got started again and I declared my interest
to a puppy by the sister dog (Toyway Jo-Han-Na)
of Jippu. That puppy (Toyway Fa-Bi-Anna) turned
out to be more than worth the waiting period
of one year. Cisco became the charmer of the
ring and quite a character.
Another
dream was realized when I got the Minnie (Revonhännän
Wiliina), a black tibetan spaniel. Minnie has
proven herself in the ring and now we are looking
forward to her having puppies. After Minnie
a male tibetan spaniel Roni (Toyway Li Taipo)
joined the kennel. He will eventually be shown
on the rings too.
Spring
2004 saw the arrival of Sylvie (Toyway Se-Ra-Fina)
who is now starting her career at dog shows
and (knocking on wood) hopefully she will be
the foundation bitch for my future breeding
plans. If this was to be the case then the first
WindPower litter would be born 10 years after
I got my very own kennel name. Better late then
never, as they say.
Our
hope for the future "Elsa" (Toyway
E-Lea-Nor) was one of the newborns (born 7th
April '05) in Cisco's litter and Elsa is now
a permanent resident of our tibbie family. She
will be seen in the ring towards the end of
this year.
In
my breeding work I will follow these values:
dogs used for breeding must have a balanced
and pleasant character, good health and several
excellent-awards at the dog shows. I will follow
the breeding rules of the Finnish Kennel Club
& Tibetan Spaniel Association and strive
to achieve the best possible results according
to the breed standard.
The
puppies are born and grown amidst our warmhearted
family, creating marvellous social skills already
at the time when they are at the release age.
Breeding is my hobby, albeit a hobby which I
take seriously, and I am expecting to have a
litter or two per year.
Besides
our tibbies our family consists of me (Tuuli)
and my cohabitant (Pekka), we both work at IT-companies
and currently reside in Hervanta, Tampere. Since
we both are on the move a whole lot our tibbies
are being taken care of by both of our mothers
and also two dogsitters Jenna and Aino. You
may stumble across Jenna at dog shows presenting
our tibbies since she is already an experienced
dog handler.
Since
we have space constraints at our home I can't
breed an unlimited number of tibbies. I am thus
looking for flexible joint ownership homes and
placement homes in the near future. Don't hesitate
to contact me if you feel at all interested
in having a tibetan spaniel living with you.
I
wish you have pleasant browsing moments on my
website.
